Review: Just so everyone knows, the grips are like this (the 'gap') on Wild Bill Hickok's real pair of 1851's. You can find a pic of his actual guns by doing a Google search for Wild Bill Hickok Colts Flickr. I am positive these particular Pietta models are meant to be replicas of Hickok's real pistols. Peace.

Review: I bought the white grips engraved. It is beautiful and will only require cleaning to take it out and shooting. I highly recommend this black powder revolver.

Review: This is the my first purchase from EMF Firearms. The personal service I received from the staff was second to none. The PIETTA 1851 NAVY .36 DLX was not up to my expectations. The president of EMF went far and beyond to make me happy as a customer. 5 PLUS stars for EMF! PIETTA quality?not so much.

Review: Gun is perfect. Beautiful 1851 Navy Colt replica. If the grip fit is an issue for you,20 minutes and some sandpaper is the fix. It's not brain surgery. The barrel and cylinder are high gloss blue. The engraving is flawless. Good job Pietta team!

Review: As many others have said, the grips are so bad I can’t imagine why EMF sends these out the door. On my 1851, the bluing is excellent and the “engraving” looks very well done. The action is very smooth & the trigger pull is excellent. Dealing with EMF is also very good, and I’d certainly tell my friends about my good experience. EMF - Fix the grip & you’ll have one of the finest reproduction revolvers on the market. I also wish you’d use the original size grips, not the enlarged/elongated version that has the awful white, obviously plastic grip like I got.

Review: I just received 1851 Navy Dix Engraved that was on sale for the holidays. It’s my second and it’s beautiful. More important is the service I received from EMS. Lindsey, Charlie, and the rest were most accommodating with my shipping issues and correspondence. Thank you all for the excellent service! TRM

Review: I ordered the deluxe model and got it within 4 days. EMF staff was fantastic. The pistol is perfect. I've bought from them several times now and I've never been disappointed. If your considering buying a cowboy type firearm, do yourself a favor and check out EMF.
"Good but not great"

Review: EMF is a fantastic company to do business with. Confirmed order on Monday, received the firearm on Tuesday. The firearm is a different story. Grips don’t come close to matching up with grip frame. Can’t believe Pietta would allow such a bad fit out the door. Several scratches on the right side of the barrel. Blueing is not uniform on the barrel as well. Good news is the case hardening and engraving are beautiful. Timing and lock up is solid. Trigger pull measures 2.0 pounds consistently with zero creep. Sights are good for what they are. Firearm has a stiff hammer spring, but that should result in positive ignition and no hammer blow back resulting in fired caps blowing off the nipples and jamming up the action. Will replace the nipples with Slix Shot nipples just because I always replace factory nipples. Brass trigger guard and grip frame are uniformly polished and without scratches. If not for the crappy grip panel fit and many cosmetic flaws on the barrel, I would have graded this firearm with a 5.

"Excellent pistol, poor grip"
Jacob on 12/12/2022 12:15:51 PM
Review: I agree with the previous reviews regarding the grip. The fitment of the grip is very poor. However, the rest of the pistol is beautiful. The engraving is sharp and looks awesome. Buy this for the pistol, not the grip. I am planning on replacing the grip later with a better quality grip. Good luck

Review: Just received my 1851 Navy deluxe engraved in 36 caliber. sales and service was great. Unfortunately The gun was over hiped. It locked up and functioned perfectly, engraving was awesome. the biggest bitch i have is the grips. The grips overhung in the front and were loose and shakey. I ended up marking them, removing them and taking a dremel and sandpaper to them. once i did that and tighten the screws back, the were perfect. I love pietta and usually have no issues, but you would think that they might take a little more pride in the so called deluxe models.
